Lorelei Lilburn: Covenant marriage emphasizes the responsibilities of both people to the marriage itself. I believe marriage is about more than just two people living together who agree on how they are to behave and what responsibilities they have in the relationship, etc. I think this kind of situation (social contract) doesn't stress the commitment that two people have to one another.A covenant marriage is a bond that the two people have made to each other but also to the marriage itself. This seems like a much more reliable way to keep to two people together. Even when you don't feel close to the other person (this happens to every married couple at times) ! you realize that you still have an obligation to the marriage itself. It helps to have a religious background or to understand that marriage is about more than just feelings (which come and go at times, but will always return if both people are committed to each other)....Show more
