The field reporters use handheld dynamic mics - and when in a noisy environment hold the mic very close to the mouth - either their own or the person being interviewed. This is one of the reasons live performance bands in a noisy environment use dynamic mics.I use an Audio Technica AT8004. The long body is useful for a mic flag. I also use a Shure SM58 if a mic flag is not used. Both of these use an XLR cable connection. Your HF R500 has a single 3.5mm stereo audio input so you either need to get an XLR adapter (like those from BeachTek or juicedLink) or use a mic with a 3.5" connector.The Audio Technica ATR1100 or ATR1200 should meet your needs.
