Donte Schoenhals: You will have to go back and read what you wrote. Roosevelt indeed said that Americans had a right to EARN enough to provide adequate(not luxurious, just adequate) food, clothing and some form of leisure, not necessarily horseback riding or power boating, but enough leisure that every minute from waking to falling into bed exhausted after an entire dawn to dark day of work was not what it took to keep your children from starving and pay the rent on a sharecropper shack. "The OPPORTUNITY to achieve and enjoy good health." Meaning that people should not be crippled or poisoned by their employers or by their environment.Again, "the right to ADEQUATE protection from the economic fears of old age, sickness, accident and unemployment." Meaning, that Granny should not be shipped off to the county farm(still in existence when Roosevelt wrote) after Grandpa worked himself into the grave, or Uncle Chester got chewed up by a piece of equipment down at the plant. And! conservatives are the ones who were screaming about "death panels" and "ice floes." Just listen to yourself! You aren't "learning" anything factual from Fox. Educate yourself as to who owns that puppy and why on earth they would want to direct your vote to the Republican party. You will not be the one to benefit from continuing on the path that brought this nation to its economic knees a few years ago. There is a redistribution of wealth already in progress, and it's not the Democrats who initiated or who would perpetuate it....Show more
Booker Moros: You actually get those things while in US prison...except pension
Hubert Jestes: most people I know enjoy working, most people are not lazy and would work anyway. You get more than just money from a job, especially if it is a job you enjoy doing.
Maye Delk: OK genius, he was talking about someone who is working having a right to those things. Did you not read what you posted...or is just more of the right wi! ng reading comprehension deficiency?
Marcellus Yoshimori! : Some of us do not have opportunities to jobs with pensions, real recreation etc..... so yeah why work? small paycheck and barley pay bills. A lot of people have this problem so what it the point? I am not in this fix but a lot are. Plus the need for a pension is only because we have a need to continuously pay some a** just to exist. My own food to live on hand grown my self. my home i built etc... there's my pension.
Carmelina Enoch: You do have a right to basic human needs being covered, but you won't like what you get if you don't work.Every other first world country has health care, we are the only ones concerned with if its a right as a human being, or a privilege solely for the wealthy. You get a home if you're on welfare, you might share it with rats, and it won't be reliably warm in winter and the water might be iffy, but you will have a roof over your head. For recreation, you're on your own.If you don't work you don't get a pension, but even if you do work do! n't count on that.Your food budget on welfare is about twenty five to fifty dollars a week, depending on how many live with you.If that sounds like heaven, you're in trouble. Welfare doesn't control your life, it limits it. But we are still among the richest nations in the world, that our people would lack food, a roof and help if they are ill is just repulsive to many others. No one is talking luxury, but basic human needs should be met....Show more
Jammie Taddei: You shouldn't have to work. You have the right to enjoy the fruits of Chinese labor with all your govt greenbacks.
Donte Schoenhals: Blah blah blah. You know what I care about? Obama is not going to start endless wars like Bush jackhole.
Corrina Faro: ok, I'm going to answer your question, and eliminate all the spin of your paragraphs that follow because I think you're under 40 and not knowledgeable.Yes you have a right to those things you mentioned....IF YOU WORK
Kelly Bistodeau: you ha! ve a right to life, which logically would conclude with health (maybe n! ot in america...) and shelter rights, but I wouldn't say recreation has anything to do with it - that's something you don't have a right to. if that was the case, we'd all be living in a fantasy land.
Jerald Florence: I love the sound of neoconjob desperation in the morningIt sounds like..... victory....:)
Reyes Brunell: I am a Democrat and all the things you can say about Democrats is ok because there are more we could cherry pick for the Republicans. I don't happen to like Woodrow Wilson at all, mostly because of the things he did and said to women when they tried to get the right to vote. I only know for certain that I myself have been better off under Democrats than Republicans. All the propaganda in the world won't change that. I could tell you that your Republican party has already passed a new bill in the house for subsidies to the farmers where 80% of the wealthiest farmers whose average net income is $135,000 and whose debt ratio is less than 9% will ge! t an average of about $400,000 over a 5 year period. Why should we subsidize the wealthy? This is a bill for $20B a year and you want to talk about Democrats. If you want to talk coal that is something I am a little bit more interested in. The coal operators have tried their best over the last 100 years to buy their way into not paying for the damages they have done to property, illnesses and death they have caused by not following rules that were intended to save lives and keep miners from getting black lung. If you want to learn about the coal operators and miners you should get closer to the papers in the mining states. Look up Buffalo Creek WV where in 1971 a whole town was wiped out when a blackwater retention pond burst and killed people and destroyed their homes. Or just last year when several miners lost their jobs because of a company that had around 300 outstanding judgments against them for infringment of rules. The Charleston Gazette in Charleston WV has an ongo! ing blog about the mines. They reported in an article about two months ! ago that there is more coal mined today with less men because of the way they mine and the large machinery that has been developed like continuous miners. They shave the whole tops of mountains off and dump the rock into the valley to ruin the vegetation, kill native animals and ruin the water tables. The Republicans have always been the ones to let them get by with this,so you don't convince me at all....Show more
Warren Kotter: "No 'right" exercised by one person can put any obligation on another person." Andrew Wilkow, Wilkow Majority, Sirius Patriot RadioIf you exercise any of these alleged "rights" you will need to pay for them. For that, you might need a job.
