If 68%of Americans say We Should be Required to have Health Insurance Why Don't we Have Universal Health Care?

Mickey Isle: Because those 68% are wrong. Majorities are often wrong.Nevertheless, the whole health care thing has been so perverted that virtually no one's idea will work as long as they are aimed at shifting the burden of who pays. The problem with health care is that market forces are absent. All the things we do normally, like shop around for price and service, and deciding on alternatives is now absent from health care. The only question we ask is "Do you take my insurance?" or "Will the gov't pay for this?"Here's a revolutionary idea to fix health care. Make people pay for their own health care. Oh, we can tinker. People could buy catastrophic insurance policies, and poor folk can still get gov't assistance, but for the most part, when the bulk of us are paying for our routine health care, market forces will be re-introduced and the health care industry will respond like every other industry does....Show more

Ariel Arons: medicaid and medicare suck. and t! hats just what is going to happen with NHI, its going to turn into a big waste of moneymyth 1 debunked: yeah, we spend over 2 trillion on healthcare. i actually thought it was closer to 3 tril. the current national budget is about 3 trillion. you will be taxed out your ***, and guess who will pay it? the middle and upper class, who already get taxed enoughmyth 2: it mentions that it may affect innovation of technologies, but never addresses why it wont be a problem. why? because it will be. if companies arent making money off of their new patents, they wont invest hundreds of millions of dollars in research and development. that is why the US is a leader in new drugs and techniques, and not much new stuff comes out of canada or the UK. we should force their governments to pay our companies more though so they dont bum off of us and the cost of innovation is completely on americansmyth 3: yes, it does. medicare part D is a mess. i dont know much about A and B but i can only ! imagine it is the same. mediciad is a mess. medicare d is run ! just like every other private rx drug plan, the only difference is the name on the card. it is actually probably more restrictive and complicated than most private plans, there are some medicare D plans that require prior authorizations which are a pain in the *** for just about every brand name drug. there are dozens of different companies and they all have different formularies (things of what they will or wont pay for). and medicaid is even worse and more restrictive about getting this brand or that brand and they still throw away tons of money. and lol i wonder what percent of those tax dollars are going to vicodin, oxycontin, and xanexhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medicaidhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_federal...lets look at medicaid, the government's program to cover the poor and the people that hate working and paying taxes. it covers about 40-45 million people per year. the federal budget for the program is about 275 billion per year, and since the fed bu! dget is just a 50% match of what most state govs pay (some states get a better match) total goverment funding of the program was probably over 800 billion. do the math- 800bil divided by 45mil. so a rough estimate of cost to the state and federal goverments about $18,000 a year per medicaid beneficiary. you easily insure a family (even 2 or 3 families) for that much in the private sector. medicaid gets all kinds of rebates and stuff already too. where does the money go? who the hell knows. still sound efficient to you? so, when we go to universal healthcare and are paying $70k/yr per family of 4 and we are all fleeing the border to mexico can i say i told you so?myth 4: i dont even know where to start on that one... just read my myth #3 debunking rant...Show more

Hermina Ketring: This is part of why 9-11 was able to happen, the answer is yes.By continuing to leave the border open, and put the blame on not having a "wall", they kept the people in Arizona confused alot ! longer.

Lu Tiner: "According to the survey by The Commonwealth Fu! nd, an independent foundation working toward health policy reform..."should tell you that a foundation WORKING TOWARD health policy reform is not going to be unbiased. It is their job to 'reform' healthcare. I wonder who is paying them? Hillery or China?

Vernon Martorana: If 68%of Americans say We Should be Required to have our genitals painted red with polka dots, Why Don't we Have red polka dotted genitals? Can you figure this one out for yourself or are your ideas/opinions formed collectivly?

Loriann Carrigan: enable's remind "Sky", who seems to have short term memory issues, approximately the two Border Patrol brokers who have been despatched to reformatory with the aid of our very own US district felony experts place of work. undergo in suggestions the drug broking tried to run them over in a van throughout a border drug run. so they shot him in the *** attempting to flee. The Drug broking grow to be given US citizenship and thousands and thousands of gre! enbacks. To testify against the U. S. Border Patrol. The drug broking grow to be caught doing the comparable ingredient using fact then. finally the brokers have been given a presidential pardon using public help for the brokers. no longer in easy terms is that refusal to implement the immigration regulations, yet offender cost of government whether they attempt to implement it!

Marjory Stromme: It is an absolute security risk. Lets face reality... for most Americans, you could mix a couple middle-easterners into a group of Hispanics, and until they opened their mouth to speak, most Americans could not tell any difference. And when one considers the tons of cocaine and pot that stream across the border, can one really suggest that it would be difficult to cross the border with a suitcase nuke or twenty pounds of anthrax spores? Muslims HAVE already been crossing the southern border as evidenced by the fact that among the many things illegals have left behind along ! the trails when being pursued have been found copies of the Koran, pray! er rugs, and Iranian currency. It is not a question of if.. only of when.

Charis Deguzman: Yes I certainly can. You better sit down because this is mind boggling:Please watch this first video linked here. It’s only one minute. You’ve read this far into my response so please take just one small minute and watch this first video. You’re going to be impressed. This is a local news video of a witness named Kenny Johannemann testifying to explosions that happened in the basement of one of the WTC towers. While he is testifying you still see both of the twin towers burning behind him in the background. This was live footage and it's only ONE minute long. Go ahead and watch this here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yEuzU3LMgCA

Malissa Porth: It won't fix it. Any company providing heath insurance for their employees will stop immediately. Also, who do you think is going to pay for this "free" healthcare? If you say government, then you and I will pay. All the rich p! eople will have private pay healthcare and all the best doctors and best hospitals will no longer be open to us. Look at Canada if you want answers as to Universal Healthcare. They have 30 million people and we have 300 million. The wait for heart surgery is usually 2 years and most people die waiting for medical help, It is also managed and rationed care. If you are over a certain age, they do not perform surgery on you, and you may find if you are overweight or smoke, you don't get care at all. Private health insurance is the ONLY way it will work. If everyone (excluding the illegals) had some type of insurance, things would work more smoothly. Illegals should be denied care as far as I'm concerned. As a taxpayer, I am sick of having to pay for them and my own health insurance....Show more

Raul Tllo: what is that supposed to mean?

Herma Ellebrecht: SHORT ANSWER .....YES.....As an example....Recently, in just one year, over 680 illegal aliens were caught attemp! ting to cross the Arizona border..... They were not Mexican..... they w! ere not even Hispanic..... they were Arabs from "terrorist supporting" nations trying to sneak into America....in that we usually only catch one third of the illegal border crossers....that means approximately 1,360 potential terrorists successfully crossed the border that year..... Do you think it is just a little odd that the largest per capita concentration of Muslims in America is in the Tucson AZ area.....right next to the border....???In addition to the breach of our nations physical security there is our HEALTH security ..... ALL legal immigrants are required to get a health physical before entering America.....WHY?..... Because there are diseases out their that introduced or RE-introduced to America could kill thousands before we could get them under control..... I suspect the four corners mini-plague that hit the southwest a few years ago was exactly that.... a pathogen probably introduced to the area by illegal border crossers ..... they officially blamed it on ! mice droppings..... but I doubt itThe risk of massive death....particularly to the very young and very old is ....REAL every time an illegal alien ...... of ANY race.....sneaks across the border. We average 1 million border crossings a year ....our luck is bound to run out sooner or later

Mozell Sponsler: Myths on Universal Health Care By Dr. Marcia Angell, Past Editor New England Journal of Medicine February 4, 2003. Washington D.C.Myth #1: We can’t afford a national health care system, and if we try it, we will have to ration care. My answer is that we can’t afford not to have a national health care system. A single-payer system would be far more efficient, since it would eliminate excess administrative costs, profits, cost-shifting and unnecessary duplication. Furthermore, it would permit the establishment of an overall budget and the fair and rational distribution of resources. We should remember that we now pay for health care in multiple ways â€" through ou! r paychecks, the prices of goods and services, taxes at all levels of g! overnment, and out-of-pocket. It makes more sense to pay just once....Show more

Ramona Pago: Did anyone tell them how much more it would cost to accomplish this. It is a lot easier to sell someone something if you don't show them the price tag.

Rosalia Hibler: Floating, we'll never know unless we TRY. Under the current system, many medical decisions about what’s best for you are now being made by some corporate bureaucrat working for a private insurance company whose main concern is making larger profits by denying your claims. How exactly does that work out to be better for you?

Joan Stavropoulos: Because that same 68% flunked Math & Economics.

Myriam Hetjonk: It's already happening, but Obama is too stupid to put two and two together. How do you think is funding the Cartels with subs and tanks? They are coming across with military style machinery.

Georgia Dees: Most people do not know what the Bill of Rights is, let alone anything about ec! onomics and quality of care in a single payer health care system.

Travis Sherrock: no, we don't need universal care. it is too pricey, the quality would go down and rationing.I lived in Europe for 7 years and saw the effects. we don't need that nonsense here.what we need is caps on malpractice, competition between cInsurance companies

Lu Snide: IT ALREADY IS

Jerrod Guilfoil: The Feds refuse to enforce their own laws yet the Leftists call the Arizona Law , Un -Constitutional , how comedic is that .

Margy Sandquist: We are infidels according to Islamic teachings and should be exterminated.. simplified explanation..

Majorie Chester: The "Loose Change" videohttp://loosechange911.com/covers just about every questionable detail there is about 9/11.

Kellie Waycott: 84.6% of the electorate approved Hitler as Führer und Reichskanzler (leader and chancellor)...The majority wanted him so the decision must've been right, right?Just because the major! ity has bought into something doesn't mean it is good or right.

L! ionel Tanen: MNVikes, A Single Payer Universal Health Care system will make sense and save us money. The US spent $2 Trillion on health care in '06 and that's without coverage for every American. If we spent HALF of that ($1 trillion) on UHC we'd still be saving ourselves $1 trillion annually AND covering EVERY American! Many companies actually WANT UHC, such as the automobile industry because they're being crushed under the weight of rising health care costs. UHC would lift this burden off of employers while giving employees greater job mobility since they wouldn't have to worry about "losing their benefits" if they left a job. Seems win-win to me!...Show more

Natalya Sydney: Buffy, Why should we protect incompetent doctors? If a doctor saws off the wrong leg, or removes the wrong organ they shouldn't be sued? You can't put a price on someones life or the impact a botched operation could have on their life. Our government is there to protect ALL Americans, but should! take greater care to protect those who cannot protect themselves. Limiting the awards of malpractice suits only hurts the little guys....Show more

Long Woltjer: I think that 68% is a lie - maybe 68% of people living in the projects want it.

Eliseo Luma: Myth #2: Innovative technologies would be scarce under a single-payer system, we would have long waiting lists for operations and procedures, and in general, medical care would be threadbare and less available. This misconception is based on the fact that there are indeed waits for elective procedures in some countries with national health systems, such as the U. K. and Canada. But that’s because they spend far less on health care than we do. (The U. K. spends about a third of what we do per person.) If they were to put the same amount of money as we do into their systems, there would be no waits and all their citizens would have immediate access to all the care they need. For them, the problem is not the syst! em; it’s the money. For us, it’s not the money; it’s the system..! ..Show more

Hyman Coren: Ronnie, if you claim UHC "doesn't work," it's only fair that you back up your claim with reasons as to WHY it doesn't and then provide sources. If making sure the least among us is taken care of then call me a socialist. I don't speak for all Democrats though. But then I suppose you'd have to call Jesus a "socialist" too. Read Matthew 25:31-46

Aldo Decurtis: I heard a quote about Democracy - basically is said that Democracy will only work until people realize they can vote themselves money from the treasury. Just because 68% of people want something, doesn't automatically make it their right for the government to provide it for them. Think of the % of people that don't want to pay income taxes.....

Babette Deloe: You can type all of your little talking points trying to dispell the criticisms of universal healthcare as myths, but look at the countries that have socialized medicine. Canada and Great Britain do not have great healthc! are. I agree that people should be required to have it, but they should still choose it and pay for it themselves. In my state (and every other state as far as I know) drivers are required to have a minimum level of auto insurance coverage. We don't have universal auto insurance but seem to be doing fine with our auto insurance programs. The problem is that people don't prioritize their own healthcare coverage high enough. I would like to see a survey of how many people have cable, cell phones, satellite radio, and other luxuries but claim that they "can't afford" healthcare....Show more

Erin Arron: It's already a risk, perhaps more so than the Taliban in Afghanistan (since it's location is our back yard). The fact that those of us who oppose open borders are labeled as bigots while foreign nationals (many with criminal intent) are free to come and go as they please with the support of Washington just sickens me.Illegals cost tax payers more than 110 billion per y! ear, and if granted amnesty will certainly add many billions more to th! e cost of the Obamacare health-care law. Those who take the opposite view of mine, clearly can not be called "true Americans" , because true Americans do not favor legislation or policies that hurt other citizens.

Jodie Capella: Like the weird facts and statsitcs, and was george bush something to do with this ?is there any evidence thathe was? why ? and what are other people's theroy on who acctaully done the bombing and why all that sorta stuff ?and has george commented on those weird stats and statstics ?thanks for your help.

Margy Sandquist: people say a terrorist was planning to bomb it im not fully sure

Forest Duttinger: Universal Health Care does not work. Look at Canada. I'm happy with my insurance. I don't like Socialism which is what the Dem's want.

Ramon Dahlheimer: HUH - terrorists attacked us. This was not an inside job. It was not Bush's fault.

Mercedez Trabue: Sweaty, what about Corporate Welfare? Nowhere in the Constitution isC! ongress granted the authority to spend funds to directly subsidize industry, or to enter into joint ventures with automobile companies, or to guarantee loans to favored business owners. Yet, since the New Deal, by applying very expansivereadings of the General Welfare Clause, the Supreme Court has allowed Congress to redistribute wealth from taxpayers to favored businessinterests. Some spending that benefitsbusinesses, such as infrastructure spending and the funding of courts to enforce contracts, also benefits the population as a whole. But those are expenditures that benefit all companies and citizens generally and are usually not geared to a specific activity or industry. The programs of the corporate welfare state, on the other hand, do not fit this definition.http://www.cato.org/pubs/pas/pa592.pdf...Show more

William Vickerman: Well I know you have to dial it on a phone or something

Fannie Collingwood: Many of them think that by becoming a marytar they are ! helping thier people. Terrorism is usually born in extreme circumstan! ce and ideology that does not coincide with every day society. These people think that they are right, and that they are the only ones willing to fight and die for what is right. It is perfectly logical to them.

Karie Mavle: It is a risk already. You only hear about a very small fraction of the total number of border incursions by foreign nationals. Most of them you never hear about. The problem is many times bigger than you think it is, because most of it is not reported to or in the media.

Chris Coggins: should terrorist groups use the border between the U.S. and Mexico as an avenue for attacks on U.S. soil?

Ulrike Hert: Awaken...It has been a major national security risk since Reagan gave amnesty to 3 million illegals in 1986. See what Mexico thinks of us penetrating a 150 miles into their nation and how they treat us. Think they would give me a sombrero and a taco shell or a welfare check and medical care or more like 10 years in the hot sun at h! ard labor. Check it out or don't they have internet in Mexico yet. Google "Mexican immigration" and see if they have a law posted and the punishment for violating it.Border security has been my most major complaint of Bush since he took office and especially after 09/11/01. Our own citizens had to organize and call themselves minutemen to help our border patrol on the Arizona border. It was very dirty sweltering duty.

Valentine Michaud: I wanted to know why do terrorists attack then USA? but I'm not really asking why I'm more or less asking why waste their time attacking the USA instead of improving and worrying about their country? Why would you be willing to be a suicide bomber or a terrorist and risk your life and your freedom that you already have if you live in USA to attack it????? It seems so idiotic and counterproductive! All you do when you attack the USA is start a bunch of Sh!t that ends up doing your own country more harm than good! Is that want Osama b! in Laden wants?? What does he really want to kill people from the USA? ! Doesn't he realize that even if he succeeds in blowing up the USA it isn't going to make his country successful because there will be nothing for him but a destroyed piece of land?If I lived in a poor country and I was a leader I wouldn't want to attack and terrorize other countries! I'd be trying to help myself and my people... What is with these people is something wrong with them and how do organizations find such crazy people who will do anything and don't think of logic and reasoning? Thanks.

Margy Sandquist: You should know who these so called "terrorists" really work for. This "war on terror" is not what you think it is.

Sammy Hatzenbihler: Myth #3: A single-payer system amounts to socialized medicine, which would subject doctors and other providers to onerous, bureaucratic regulations. But in fact, although a national program would be publicly funded, providers would not work for the government. That’s currently the case with Medicare, which is publicl! y funded, but privately delivered. As for onerous regulations, nothing could be more onerous both to patients and providers than the multiple, intrusive regulations imposed on them by the private insurance industry. Indeed, many doctors who once opposed a single-payer system are now coming to see it as a far preferable option....Show more

Shan Lanen: All I can picture when someone says "universal health care" is the DMV.Think about it.Addition: Also, there is no good comparison of the cost of our healthcare to that of other countries. Why? How much does Canada get charged for the same medicine Americans get charged?...Show more

Floyd Labuda: Phil, the DMV here in NJ is VERY efficient. They've streamlined everything and at most, you're in and out in half an hour. Our government does many things right, Social Security (if the government would stop borrowing from it), our military, police, schools, roads, etc. ALL are forms of "socialism" if you think about it.

Hugo Pittari: I'm not insulting you, but you make a very obvious ! point.....You can't "understand them" because (like so many other Americans) you TRY to view their behaviors with the ASSUMPTION that they have the same VALUE SYSTEM as we do. They do not.We would never think of teaching kindergarten children ANYTHING BUT "love" and "sharing" and "getting along"..... they teach them to "hate the Jew pig" and that "Allah wants Israel to burn".We value LIFE..... they value martyrdom. We seek technological advancements..... they are happy living is caves and cinder block buildings. We talk about WORLD UNITY.... they aspire (with their deaths!) to plant Sharia Law over the globe. We read/watch in horror as they attack "innocent people"...... they view them as "God's sacrifice".You don't understand them because...... you don't understand them! They have NO values in common with us, which is why they hate us..... and why we must be willing to KILL THEM since we can not "negotiate" with "God's law" that they believe in to the point they blow t! hemselves up in crowds of innocent poeple.

Ollie Hamiel: Here's a really fun site, with a link to a well written article that deals with this issue. Humorous, designed for mature audiences, but chock full of logic.http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=91...

Queenie Ruthers: Myth #4: Claims the government can’t do anything right. Some Americans like to say that, without thinking of all the ways in which government functions very well indeed, and without considering the alternatives. I would not want to see, for example, the NIH, the National Park Service, or the IRS privatized. We should remember that the government is elected by the public and we are responsible for it. An investor-owned insurance company reports to its owners, not to the public....Show more

Clemente Schoeck: Ronnie: What do you mean by 'Look at Canada'?Although we do occasionally complain, approximately 96% of Canadians wouldn't trade in our system with the American one. Now ! tell me, what's the percentage of Americans happy with their health care! ?According to a World Health Organization report published in 2003, life expectancy at birth in Canada is 79.8 years, versus 77.3 in the U.S. People live longer, are healthier and have a better quality of life in countries with universal coverage....Show more

Rubye Bonnin: HR 676 is a disaster. The funding assumptions are total dreamstate ramblings--there is NO WAY it would cost so little as Conyers pretends.NO UHC country anywhere--Britain, Canada, or Japan--provides free "long term care." In the US that is shouldered by Medicaid, which was not designed for that, and a reason our taxes are skyrocketing. With an aging demographic, that one feature of HR 676 alone BANKRUPTS THE ENTIRE US. The rest of it is nonsense as well. You can't give people ALL the free care they WANT. Resources don't stretch that far ANYWHERE.There IS a sensible solution that accepts the reality of government involvment in insurance, provides so everyone can get quality, accessible, affordable ca! re without going bankrupt, and resolves abuses of the taxpayer that the current system fosters. There IS a sensible plan that does NOT force patients on it with fear of fines; does NOT impose the costs on employers; does NOT raise our taxes; and DOES resolve another abuse of the taxpayer in its funding, provides for preventative care (moral and economical), and would prevent bankruptcies (more than half are caused by medical bills and most of those folks have insurance).
